In the Victorian Supreme Court, a 17-year-old, whose identity is protected for legal reasons, is on trial for the alleged stabbing murder of general practitioner Ash Gordon, to which he has pleaded not guilty. However, he has acknowledged charges of aggravated burglary related to the incident.

The events unfolded in the early hours of January 13, 2024, when the boy, along with three accomplices, reportedly broke into Dr Gordon’s home in Melbourne while the victim and his housemate were asleep. During their second break-in, Dr Gordon awoke and confronted the intruders, which led to a chase. The boy is accused of stabbing Dr Gordon multiple times, resulting in the victim’s death outside of his residence.

Testimony from one of the other teenagers involved revealed that after Dr Gordon caught up to them in his car, a confrontation ensued. The teen witnessed his companions leap over a fence in an attempt to escape but returned when they heard Dr Gordon calling for help. He recounted seeing Dr Gordon on the ground after being stabbed, and stated that one of the teens kicked the victim, who then became unresponsive.

Following the incident, the trio allegedly fled to a nearby trail where the accused reportedly boasted about the stabbing. The witness also indicated that, shortly after, he had a phone conversation with the accused and another teen where they discussed fleeing the state. They contemplated stealing a car to escape to the Gold Coast and boarding a charter plane to Papua New Guinea, expressing concerns that he would become a key suspect if he remained.

Despite the gravity of the situation, the teen returned home later that evening after conversations with friends urged him to confront the consequences of their actions. This case underlines the tragic circumstances surrounding the death of Dr Gordon, a respected medical professional, and the serious implications for the youth involved in this shocking crime.
