Once believed to be lost, a distinctive sled, one of only three surviving props, has been rediscovered. This remarkable piece is in the possession of Joe Dante, the director behind the classic film “Gremlins.” Dante came across the sled in 1984 while working on the historic RKO Pictures lot.
Although not a collector by nature, Dante recognised the sled’s significance and took steps to ensure its preservation over the years. He subtly incorporated the sled as an Easter egg in four of his films, showcasing his appreciation for its cinematic heritage while maintaining a sense of mystery around its presence.
