A tragic incident occurred in Surry Hills, Sydney, where a man in his forties lost his life after being hit by a light rail carriage. Emergency services arrived at Devonshire Street around 1:15 PM following reports that the man had become trapped beneath the carriage. Despite the efforts of NSW Ambulance paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has yet to be confirmed.

In response to the incident, police established a crime scene and have begun an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the event. A report is being prepared for the coroner’s review.

The accident has also disrupted light rail services in the area. A spokesperson from Transport for NSW reported that L2 and L3 light rail services are not operating between Moore Park and Circular Quay due to the emergency response at Surry Hills. Replacement bus services have been requested between Central and Moore Park but have not started yet. Passengers are advised to utilise regular route buses or trains between Central and Circular Quay as alternatives. Light rail services are still available between Moore Park and Randwick, as well as between Moore Park and Juniors Kingsford.

Travelers using the light rail are encouraged to allow for extra travel time and to check information displays at stops for the latest updates on service availability.
