In an alarming incident on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, a man has been arrested following a series of assaults and an act of animal cruelty that occurred yesterday morning in Nambucca Heads.

According to police reports, the trouble began around 10:30 am when an 87-year-old man was strolling along the boardwalk on Riverside Drive. An unidentified man approached him and allegedly shoved him in the chest, causing the elderly gentleman to fall and sustain a shoulder injury that later required hospital treatment for a broken collarbone.

The assailant continued down the boardwalk, where he reportedly punched a 28-year-old woman who was jogging, resulting in injuries to her face and neck. Shortly after this attack, he confronted a 52-year-old woman who was walking her two dogs. In this instance, it is alleged that he struck her in the face, inflicting a cut on her lip, and then kicked one of her dogs before departing the scene.

Further along, around 11 am, a 70-year-old woman walking towards Gordon Park encountered the same individual. He allegedly snatched a tray of coffee from her hands and struck her on the ear.

Police apprehended a 53-year-old man on Wellington Drive. He now faces multiple assault charges as well as a charge of animal cruelty stemming from the incident with the dog. The man was denied bail and is scheduled to appear in court today.

These incidents have raised concerns about safety in the community, as residents grapple with the implications of such violent behaviour in their neighbourhood.
