In a significant setback for the Manly Sea Eagles, coach Anthony Seibold announced that star winger Jason Saab will miss the upcoming match against the Broncos due to illness. This leaves the team further depleted, as fullback Tom Trbojevic is also sidelined with a thigh injury. Manly has struggled without both players, with an unfortunate 0-9 record when they are absent from the lineup.

The absence of Saab and Trbojevic, who are key contributors to the team’s performance, is compounded by the continued absence of club leader Jake Trbojevic, who is recovering from a concussion. Despite these challenges, Seibold remains hopeful for a strong performance from the remaining squad in front of their home crowd at Brookvale.

He emphasised that while it is disappointing to be without several star players, he has faith in the team’s capabilities: “It shouldn’t matter; we have great belief in those stepping up.” He called for a “wholehearted performance” that reflects the team’s determination and grit.

In light of these injuries, Clayton Faulalo will take over Saab’s wing position, while Lehi Hopoate will fill in for Trbojevic at fullback. The Broncos and Sea Eagles are both positioned closely on the ladder, sitting eighth and ninth respectively, with each having 12 points. The looming match is critical, as the outcome could see either team drop to as low as 13th, depending on other results.

Manly’s recent form has been shaky, winning just two of their last seven matches. Meanwhile, the club is optimistic about Jake Trbojevic’s potential return for the next week’s clash against Newcastle, with Seibold indicating that if the game was on a Sunday, he would definitely be playing.

Seibold’s comments reflect a clear understanding of the challenges his team faces, yet he conveys a sense of confidence in the resilience and depth of the squad. As preparations continue for the Broncos’ visit, the Sea Eagles aim to turn their fortunes around and put forth a commendable effort despite their current adversities.
