Paul Doyle faces charges of dangerous driving following a tragic incident in which his car ploughed into a crowd of Liverpool football fans celebrating their team’s Premier League title. Prosecutor Sarah Hammond highlighted that 79 individuals were injured, with over 50 requiring treatment in hospitals; the victims ranged in age from 9 to 78 years.

Among those injured, seven remain in hospital, but their conditions are reportedly stable. The celebration turned to chaos when Doyle drove down a street filled with revellers, transitioning from a joyful occasion to a scene of tragedy. Authorities believe that Doyle bypassed a roadblock by closely following an ambulance that was responding to a report of a person experiencing cardiac arrest.

Eyewitness footage captured the distressing moment when the vehicle struck a fan, tossing them into the air while under a Liverpool flag, before veering into other spectators gathered along the roadside. Fortunately, the incident isn’t believed to be linked to terrorism, as confirmed by Merseyside Police, who stated that Doyle appears to have acted independently.

This catastrophic event has left a community in shock, emphasising the serious consequences of reckless driving amidst a significant public celebration.
