NSW Rugby League icon Brad Fittler believes that Latrell Mitchell will draw motivation from the victims of the recent floods in New South Wales as they prepare to face Queensland. Both Mitchell and his teammate Mitchell Barnett hail from coastal regions severely affected by the disaster.
As the New South Wales team gears up for their second consecutive game at Suncorp Stadium, Fittler highlighted the advantage of continuity within the squad, with many players returning from the previous year’s lineup. He acknowledged, however, that their preparations haven’t been ideal; the team has been based in Katoomba, where inclement weather and extensive travel have posed challenges, alongside a handful of injuries. In contrast, he noted that Queensland has enjoyed a more favourable lead-up to the match.
Fittler expressed enthusiasm for Mitchell’s performance, stating, “Latrell Mitchell, I can’t wait to see him get involved. He’s got a lot to play for given what’s happened on the NSW north coast.” He emphasised that the current clear weather conditions favour both teams and that the match promises plenty of attacking football.
The stakes are high not only for the game but also for the players, particularly for those like Mitchell, who are playing in solidarity with their communities impacted by the floods.
