NSW Police are consolidating 13 ongoing investigations into a new task force aimed at addressing escalating violence among organised crime groups. The initiative, dubbed Task Force Falcon, draws inspiration from prior operations and focuses on preventing gang conflicts from erupting on Sydney’s streets.

Superintendent Jason Box will lead the task force, which comprises 150 personnel, including 100 detectives. Deputy Commissioner David Hudson highlighted the task force’s dual approach, incorporating a suppression unit designed to avert further violence by deploying officers in the community.

Hudson noted that there is currently tension within organised crime networks, primarily linked to issues surrounding drug supply. He mentioned that out of 25 organised crime-related murders since 2021, 20 have been resolved while investigations into the remaining five are ongoing. The task force aims to pursue not only the shooters involved in these cases but also those who may have aided them, such as individuals connected to stolen cars or those who coordinated the crimes.

Minister for Police and Counter-Terrorism Yasmin Catley affirmed the government’s commitment to combatting this lawlessness, asserting that public safety is a priority. She described Superintendent Box as a leading expert in the field.

The cases integrated into Task Force Falcon include various serious offences, such as murders, arson, public shootings, attempted kidnappings, and other organised criminal activities that date back to December 2024, primarily occurring in Sydney’s western and southwestern suburbs. Hudson confirmed that connections between several of these cases have already been identified.

This comprehensive approach by NSW Police aims to undermine organised crime and restore safety to affected communities while ensuring that those involved face significant legal consequences.
