Sharks winger Ronaldo Mulitalo is set for an extended absence after delivering a high tackle on ex-Wallabies player Mark Nawaqanitawase, which occurred during a significant 42-16 defeat against the Roosters on Saturday.

In the match held in Gosford, Roosters captain James Tedesco showcased his skill with a remarkable flick pass that enabled Sandon Smith to score a try, further proving his ongoing talent since winning the Dally M Medal in 2019. However, the match was marred by Mulitalo’s dangerous act, where he struck Nawaqanitawase directly in the head with his shoulder.

Referee Grant Atkins took immediate action by putting Mulitalo on report and sending him to the sin bin. While Mulitalo was off the field, the Roosters capitalised on the opportunity, with Smith’s try and successful conversion extending their lead to 20-6.

Despite a spirited effort from Cronulla, who clawed back to 32-16 with two tries in the second half, they could not overturn the deficit. Tedesco scored again to assure victory for the Roosters, and the game concluded with a final try from Dominic Young, facilitated by another impressive flick pass from Nawaqanitawase, further showcasing his talent.

The outcome highlighted not only the brilliance of Tedesco but also the need for stricter discipline concerning player safety in the league, following Mulitalo’s reckless tackle.
