Parramatta Eels’ coach, Jason Ryles, has commended Dylan Brown for prioritising his team despite the recent announcement of his significant 10-year contract with the Newcastle Knights, potentially worth up to $14 million by 2026. Brown was at the heart of intense discussions in the NRL earlier this year, prompting some criticism regarding the pressure placed on him to deliver results. This also led to a less-than-warm reception from fans of the Eels.
Although there were indications that Brown might depart Parramatta sooner than expected, Ryles quickly dismissed any such speculation. Recently, as Brown has begun to regain his rhythm alongside his halves partner, Mitchell Moses, Ryles has been impressed by Brown’s capacity to focus amid external distractions.
He noted that Brown’s positive attitude has played a crucial role in his improved on-field performance. “There has been quite a bit of noise regarding his future and the Newcastle deal, but I believe his ability to stay focused has made a significant difference,” Ryles explained. Acknowledging the challenging situation Brown faced, he expressed understanding for the pressure the player was under during that time.
Ryles credited Brown for showing resilience, stating that although he seemed a bit lost in the weeks leading up to this point, his determination to put the team before individual concerns has been commendable. Now, Brown is starting to perform well, much to Ryles’ satisfaction.
