Max Inwood experienced a crucial moment of timing before capturing an exquisite shot at Lake Tekapo, New Zealand. Renowned for its stunning annual lupine bloom, the Mackenzie Basin transforms into a vibrant tapestry of colourful flowers during this season. Situated in the heart of New Zealand’s South Island, this region is celebrated for its remarkable dark skies, enhancing the beauty of the scene, especially at night.
Inwood noted that he had to exercise patience, waiting in the early hours until the winds settled. When the atmosphere finally became tranquil, it provided the perfect conditions for him to take his photograph. The image reveals a stunning view of the outer Milky Way, intertwined with the brilliant constellations of Orion, Gemini, and the Pleiades. Adding to the celestial display, the planets Jupiter and Mars shine brightly, complemented by a striking green airglow visible on the horizon, making the scene truly magical.
