Authorities are currently searching for a hit-and-run driver following the discovery of a man’s body on the Princes Freeway in Morwell, Victoria, about two hours east of Melbourne. The deceased, a 40-year-old man from Traralgon, was found by a passerby on the freeway overpass shortly before 9am.
Investigators suspect that he may have been struck by a vehicle sometime between 1am and the discovery of his body. Police are urging motorists who were on the Princes Freeway travelling towards Traralgon during this timeframe to review their dashcam footage in case they captured any relevant evidence, including sightings of the man or any vehicle involved in the incident.
Due to the ongoing investigation, all eastbound lanes of the Princes Freeway between Tramway Road and Village Avenue are currently closed. Additionally, Princes Drive is shut eastbound between Alexanders Road and the freeway. Authorities estimate that the closures will remain in place until detectives complete their initial inquiries.
Motorists looking to avoid traffic congestion are advised to exit the freeway at Moe, Newborough, or Yallourn and take detours via Tyers and Glengarry. Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
