Reece Walsh, the Broncos player, has addressed a social media video that depicts him playfully punching a friend in the face, stating it is “not a good look” but insists it was meant to be light-hearted fun. The footage has upset the Broncos management, leading to potential sanctions against Walsh, including a possible fine.
In an interview with Nine’s Today, Walsh explained that he was simply joking around with a mate and does not condone violence. He acknowledged the incident may not have been in the best taste and said, “It’s really important that we try and keep those things away and obviously we don’t support violence in those sorts of ways.”
Following the video’s release, Broncos CEO Dave Donaghy expressed his discontent directly to Walsh. The player noted, "Obviously he’s a bit disappointed in the post," acknowledging that he could have made better choices about how to behave and what to share online. Walsh reinforced that he was just trying to have a laugh, though he recognised that the antics may have crossed a line.
Despite the controversy, Walsh highlighted the importance of focusing on positive aspects of his career, mentioning an upcoming jersey release that he’d prefer to discuss instead of the negative attention from the prank.
As the situation unfolds, it appears that Walsh will face consequences for his actions, with a fine being the most likely outcome.
