James Hird has expressed his concern regarding recent speculation linking him to a coaching role at Essendon, highlighting the negative effects these reports have had on his business ventures outside of AFL. The connection was made public by veteran journalist Caroline Wilson during a broadcast on Channel Seven but was promptly denied by Hird on Nine’s Footy Classified.

He stated he had no discussions with Essendon and firmly refuted any intentions to coach the club. Hird underscored that the misinformation has caused him distress, particularly from investors and partners within his business, Euree Asset Management. He stated, "It damages my business; I haven’t got ambitions." He went on to explain that he is content coaching at Port Melbourne with his son.

Hird, a former Essendon coach, lamented that he has become the focal point of such rumours, reiterating, "I don’t want to coach at Essendon." His remarks followed a report suggesting he could return alongside former chairman Paul Little, although Little later denied aspirations to re-enter the board.

Commentary surrounding Hird’s situation included criticism from Kane Cornes, who labelled both Hird and Little as "selfish" for their alleged interests. In retaliation, Hird dismissed Cornes’ remarks, stating their lack of personal acquaintance makes his opinion inconsequential. He affirmed his support for current Essendon coach Brad Scott, whom he believes is suited for the role.

Hird noted the impact of the speculation on his professional life, stating that it invaded his current commitments. While acknowledging the public’s interest in the saga, he insisted that the discussions surrounding him were unfounded and highlighted the pressure it brings, saying, "It’s a little bit concerning that every time there’s a story, I’m the one that’s focused (upon).”

Brad Scott, who shared the stage with Hird on Footy Classified, expressed sympathy for him, acknowledging the challenging position Hird was placed in due to the unfolding drama. Scott stated that it is unreasonable to expect Hird to respond to assumptions made by others about his future in coaching.

In summary, James Hird is focusing on his business and current coaching role, distancing himself from claims that he might resume a coaching position at Essendon. He emphasised the adverse impact of these rumours on his professional interests and supports the current coaching staff, firmly asserting his disinterest in returning to a role at Essendon.
