Jake Trbojevic appears unlikely to participate in the upcoming State of Origin series opener following a serious knockout during Manly’s match against the Cowboys. The incident occurred when Trbojevic, attempting to recover the ball after a hit-up, collided heavily with Murray Taulagi, resulting in him falling unconscious upon impact.
Immediate medical attention was provided on the field as Trbojevic lay motionless, with his brother Tom and other players showing visible concern. Commentators expressed alarm at the situation, noting the severity of the hit and Trbojevic’s condition. As he was assisted from the field, the crowd acknowledged his efforts with a standing ovation.
Trbojevic is expected to be classified with a category one concussion, which requires an 11-day stand-down period, therefore ruling him out of the opening game of the Origin series. Nathan Brown stepped in to replace him once the game resumed.
Concerns also surrounded Tom Trbojevic, who seemed to struggle with a lower leg injury during the latter stages of the match. He hesitated to get back up after being tackled and subsequently dropped a critical pass, leading to further scrutiny of his fitness. Team captain Daly Cherry-Evans also displayed signs of discomfort, although he continued playing without seeking medical aid.
On the field, Manly’s Jason Saab scored the first try early in the game. Although the Cowboys showed resilience, with Robert Derby equalising late in the first half, Manly ultimately secured a 24-6 victory, adding tries from Lehi Hopoate and Ben Trbojevic to their tally.
