Andrew Johns is urging rugby league fans to attend the upcoming Origin II at Allianz Stadium, emphasising that full stadiums are crucial for advancing the women’s game. He firmly believes that the women’s sport is on an upward trajectory.
Johns noted that as the female players transition to full professionalism, the quality of the game will continue to improve year on year. He made these comments during an episode of Wide World of Sports’ Immortal Behaviour series.
Highlighting the importance of viewership, Johns pointed to the record ratings for Origin I, stating that the next critical step is to fill stadiums and encourage fans to buy merchandise. He called on family members—grandmothers, mothers, aunts, and cousins—to rally and show their support, as a strong turnout will significantly enhance the visibility and viability of the women’s game.
Johns is optimistic that once the women’s league achieves full professionalism, the sport will experience remarkable growth.
