Vivid Sydney is returning for its 15th edition, scheduled from May 23 to June 14, 2025, with the theme “dream.” This annual celebration will feature stunning light installations, vibrant music performances, and a variety of innovative culinary experiences.
The festival will illuminate the Sydney skyline nightly from 6 PM to 11 PM, across numerous popular locations including The Goods Line, Darling Harbour, Circular Quay, and for the first time since 2018, Martin Place. The program will offer a mix of paid and free attractions, ensuring accessible experiences for all. Noteworthy highlights include the “Starscape Tunnel” and “Sound Walk” among the free light installations, while premium music events will be held at iconic venues like the Sydney Opera House and Carriageworks. The Darling Harbour area will also host free shows during “Tumbalong Nights.”
Festival director Gill Minervini encourages attendees to “dream big,” stating that the event invites visitors to explore boundless creativity and new ideas. Transport options will be enhanced, including additional public transport services to ease travel during this bustling period. However, commuters should be aware to tap on and off at Opal gates as public transport isn’t free, and it’s advised to arrive early to avoid congestion due to upcoming road closures.
Roads in the festival precincts will close at 5 PM and reopen at 1 AM. Parking restrictions will also be imposed in areas like The Rocks, Dawes Point, and Haymarket, especially on weekends and Fridays.
Although there will be no drone show this year due to safety concerns, an innovative programme is promised to keep visitors engaged. Last year, Vivid Sydney drew around 2.42 million attendees, with the busiest times typically falling on weekends and public holidays, so planning ahead is essential for a smooth experience.
