Police have lifted an emergency warning for residents of the Sunshine Coast following an incident involving gunfire on the Bruce Highway. The shots were reported at approximately 12:45 PM in Coles Creek, Gympie, prompting a rapid police response to the area.
According to reports, the gunshots were allegedly directed towards the Bruce Highway near Maher Road. In light of the situation, an emergency declaration was issued under the Public Safety Preservation Act, which led to the establishment of an exclusion zone affecting both directions of the highway. During this time, locals were advised to remain indoors and secure their homes, while motorists were instructed to steer clear of the area until the warning was rescinded.
Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries, and authorities have stated that there is currently no ongoing threat to the public. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
