Australia Post is set to enhance its MyPost app by introducing a feature that will allow customers to view photos of attempted deliveries. Starting from May 19, these images will keep customers informed about the status of their parcels.

To access this new feature, customers will need to link their MyPost accounts with their delivery information through an email address or mobile phone number. Australia Post reiterated that the overall delivery process will remain unchanged, with delivery personnel still required to knock three times as part of their standard procedure.

In their communications, Australia Post noted that if a delivery cannot be completed, customers will receive notifications indicating the failure, followed by updates when their parcels are available for collection. Furthermore, delivery team members may document their attempts by taking photos at the delivery location. These images are primarily captured to help customers locate parcels left in safe spaces or to note any hazards for future deliveries.

Australia Post has assured customers that there is a strict protocol in place to safeguard privacy during this photo-taking process. Delivery drivers are instructed to limit their photos to the exterior of the property, ensuring they do not capture any identifying information, such as bystanders, vehicles, or the inside of homes through windows. The photos will be stored for 90 days and then archived, with a deletion policy set for three years.

In terms of access to properties, Australia Post noted that they infer consent for delivery attempts, including photo documentation, as long as there is reasonable and safe access to the premises. Customers who prefer that no photos are taken during delivery attempts can opt-out by contacting Australia Post’s Customer Service team.

This new initiative aims to enhance transparency and confidence in the delivery process, enabling customers to feel more informed about the whereabouts of their parcels.
