A popular baby highchair, the Bugaboo Giraffe, is being recalled due to safety issues following reports of injuries to infants. The highchair was available at major retailers such as Baby Bunting and Baby Kingdom for AUD 499 with a pillow set or AUD 350 for just the frame.
The recall notice, issued by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC), highlighted a flaw involving the screws that connect the legs to the frame. There is a risk that these screws may become loose and detach while a child is seated, posing a serious risk of falls and potential injury.
Parents and caregivers are urged to stop using the highchair immediately. Bugaboo is responding by providing a free repair kit to customers, which includes upgraded screws, an improved tool for assembly, and comprehensive instructions to ensure secure installation of components.
This safety concern has also led to a recall in the UK. Bugaboo has informed customers about the importance of ensuring proper assembly of the highchair and is actively reaching out to Giraffe owners to provide the repair kit.
The recall affects Giraffe highchairs with the baby set accessory, suitable for children aged six months to 36 months, and those without the baby set, for kids aged 36 months and older, with a weight limit of 100 kg. Model numbers involved include: 200001013, 200001001, 200001002, 200001005, and 200001007.
Bugaboo emphasises their commitment to product safety and reliability, assuring that no other products in their range are impacted by these issues.
