Dom Young’s time with the Sydney Roosters seems to be nearing its end, as the club has informed the 23-year-old winger that he is free to explore opportunities with other NRL teams. Despite having a contract that extends until the conclusion of the 2027 season, he has been granted permission to negotiate with rival clubs, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.
After being dropped from the first-grade squad last month, Young has been playing in the NSW Cup, while Mark Nawaqanitawase and Robert Toia have emerged as key players in the Roosters’ backline. Veteran winger Daniel Tupou is expected to extend his time with the team, and injury-stricken centre Billy Smith also holds a stronger position in the selection hierarchy than Young.
Should Young secure a new opportunity, he could make the move before the June 30 deadline. His former team, the Newcastle Knights, is regarded as the most likely destination for his return. Newcastle had previously been reluctant to let Young go when he joined the Roosters, and speculation about his potential return has been rife recently.
In his NRL career, Young has made a significant impact, scoring 68 tries in 80 appearances since transitioning from the Super League, along with nine tries in six international games for England. As he pursues new avenues, his future in the league remains a topic of interest among fans and sports analysts alike.
