A small family business, Kenz Beauty, has celebrated an unexpected triumph against the mighty $400 billion Louis Vuitton group, known for owning the Kenzo fashion brand. This ‘David vs. Goliath’ story was brought to light by Rim Daghmash on A Current Affair in 2023.
Kenz Beauty is named after Daghmash’s daughter, Kenzie, who has autism. Her mission was to highlight the beauty of autistic children through her brand. However, the luxury conglomerate’s legal team claimed that the name "Kenz Beauty" was misleadingly similar to "Kenzo," putting the family business at risk.
Daghmash contended that even a young child could distinguish between the two names, emphasising their differences. Following media coverage, LVMH’s outlook softened, as they suggested alternative names for the business, such as "The Beauty of Kenz.” However, Daghmash firmly insisted on retaining the original name.
After lengthy mediation with the corporate giant’s lawyers, they reached an agreement to rebrand solely to Kenz Beauty & Co. Daghmash expressed a sense of relief, stating the outcome was crucial for her family’s livelihood. With the matter resolved, she enthusiastically expanded the business, launching a new spa and confirming that Kenz Beauty would remain part of the community.
Now boasting what she claims is the only Moroccan hammam in Queensland, Daghmash’s business has transformed from a home-based venture to a bustling enterprise employing a dedicated team of five skin therapists. Her daughter Kenzie is thrilled that her name remains as part of the business, and police highlights the team’s shared passion for their work.
Kenz Beauty also saw a remarkable surge in support from the public after their story aired, selling out every product within three days. Daghmash expresses immense gratitude for the positive response, noting how the community’s backing was life-changing. She appreciates every encouragement she has received, from purchases to supportive messages, which have contributed significantly to their success.
