Pilot Glenn Collins, an experienced aviator, suffered a serious accident during a multi-plane stunt at Avalon Airport in Victoria on March 28. The incident unfolded before thousands of spectators at Australia’s largest airshow, resulting in Collins sustaining spinal injuries.

Having spent over a month in hospital, Collins recently updated his followers on Facebook, sharing that he is “healing well” despite the challenges he faces. He reported having difficulty with full sensation in his legs and waist but remains determined and hopeful about his recovery. After five weeks in Melbourne, he has been transferred to Sydney, which allows him to be closer to his family, offering him significant comfort during his rehabilitation.

In his heartfelt message, Collins expressed gratitude toward the pyrotechnic crew who acted swiftly and heroically to extricate him from the wreckage, along with the healthcare professionals providing him with excellent care and support. He also acknowledged the love and support from his wife, children, and extended family, highlighting their importance during this difficult time.

Collins reflected on the new reality he faces due to his life-altering injuries, recognizing that many have traversed a similar path of recovery. Despite the uncertainties that lie ahead, he remains grounded and positive, focusing on every small step toward healing.

With over 2,700 hours of flying experience and a record of success in aerobatic competitions, Collins is a member of the Paul Bennet Airshows team. Following the incident, the team announced it would not return to the Avalon Airshow, encouraging the public to continue enjoying the event.

Collins’ inspiring resilience and positive outlook through this arduous journey serve as a testament to his strength and character as he navigates the road to recovery.
