Australians will encounter a mix of weather conditions when they head to the polls for the federal election tomorrow. With compulsory voting in place, turnout isn’t expected to be significantly affected by weather, but various voters and election workers may still want to prepare for their journey to polling stations.

In terms of specific forecasts by capital city, Brisbane is set for a cloudy election day with a chance of afternoon showers, reaching a high of 24 degrees Celsius. Voters in Sydney’s western suburbs should be on alert for early morning fog, transitioning to a partly cloudy day with a maximum temperature of 23 degrees. Those in the ACT and Tasmania should bundle up, as chilly conditions and a frosty start with temperatures around 1 to 6 degrees are anticipated, warming up to 20 degrees in Canberra and potentially 17 degrees in Hobart later in the day.

Western Australia will see a notable shift as a cold front approaches. Perth, which has enjoyed fine autumn weather, will experience a drop in temperature from today’s high of 26 degrees to around 22 degrees tomorrow, with a 90% chance of rain and strong westerly winds.

The forecast indicates milder, drier weather for voters in New South Wales, including Sydney, while the southern regions will enjoy bright and sunny skies. Adelaide is expected to have clear conditions with pleasant northerly winds and a comfortable high of 25 degrees. In Melbourne, voters can expect early fog and frost giving way to a warm maximum of 22 degrees. Meanwhile, Darwin will bask in dry, sunny weather with temperatures soaring to 33 degrees.

Many voters may want to plan for possible rain or cool weather as they cast their votes, but with Australia’s established voting process, it’s likely that turnout will remain steady despite these changing weather patterns.
