Renowned journalist Joel Dry is set to return to Nine, where he will co-present the 6pm 9News Queensland bulletin alongside Melissa Downes. Dry takes over from Andrew Lofthouse, who retired earlier this year.
Having commenced his journalism career with Nine in 2011, Dry progressed to become a federal politics reporter in Canberra. He expressed his excitement about returning, stating, “I’m thrilled to be coming back to Nine, where I began my journey in news many years ago.” Dry also voiced his admiration for Downes, praising her generosity and support during his earlier tenure and highlighting the privilege of collaborating with such a respected journalist.
Downes reciprocated the enthusiasm, expressing eagerness to commence their partnership. “This is an exciting time for 9News Queensland; it feels like a regeneration. I know our team will be just as happy as I am to have Joel join me at the 6pm news desk,” she remarked.
She anticipates that Dry will inject a fresh energy into the newsroom and enhance the bulletin with his insightful reporting, enriching viewers’ understanding of significant stories.
