After committing the horrific act of murdering his mother, he embarked on a cross-country drive, convinced he was being pursued by law enforcement. However, after listening to the radio and hearing no reports of the murder or any manhunt, he decided to contact the local police to confess his crime. Unfortunately, his confession was met with disbelief, and the officers dismissed his call, hanging up on him.
Determined, he eventually reached out to an officer he knew personally, who took his claims seriously. His motive for halting the violence he had initiated was disturbingly trivial. He expressed, “It wasn’t serving any physical or real or emotional purpose. It was just a pure waste of time.” He elaborated that emotionally he was reaching his limits, and as he approached a state of exhaustion, he began to recognise the futility of his actions. In a moment of clarity, he chose to abandon the chaos he had created and admitted defeat, stating, “Toward the end there, I started feeling the folly of the whole damn thing, and at the point of near exhaustion, near collapse, I just said to hell with it and called it all off.”
