In the early hours of today, police in Sydney’s eastern suburbs engaged in a dramatic car chase that led to shots being fired at a vehicle. The incident began around 4am when officers from the Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command pursued a dark Audi A1 along Old South Head Road in Rose Bay. The chase was quickly called off due to the high speed of the vehicle.
Shortly after the pursuit was abandoned, the Audi was spotted parked on Sir Thomas Mitchell Road. An officer approached the car on foot, but the situation escalated when the driver of the Audi accelerated towards the officer. In response, police discharged their firearms at the vehicle. The Audi then collided with a police car before fleeing the scene.
A few hours later, the abandoned Audi was located in North Bondi and is currently under examination by forensic teams. Further investigation revealed that the car had been reported stolen from Double Bay the previous night.
Authorities are appealing for witnesses who were in the areas of Old South Head Road, Rose Bay, Sir Thomas Mitchell Road, and Murriverie Road, North Bondi, between 4am and 6.30am. Individuals with relevant information, as well as those holding CCTV or dashcam footage, are encouraged to contact Eastern Suburbs Police or Crime Stoppers at 1800 333 000.
