Ricky Nixon, a disgraced former AFL player turned sports agent, has been arrested in Melbourne following a menacing post on social media that seemingly threatened a police officer. The incident occurred early this morning when police apprehended the 62-year-old near his home in Port Melbourne.
In a Facebook message that has since been reviewed by 9News, Nixon made intimidating comments about “burying” a serving officer, prompting law enforcement action. After his arrest, Nixon was taken into custody for further questioning by detectives.
Nixon had a career as an AFL player from 1983 to 1993, during which he played 63 games for Carlton, St Kilda, and Hawthorn. Following his retirement from playing, he transitioned to becoming a sports agent, representing many prominent figures in the AFL.
His recent legal troubles are not limited to the threatening post. Earlier in 2023, he faced accusations of assault after allegedly kneeing a police officer during a court appearance for unrelated charges. Nixon is scheduled to return to court in June regarding allegations that he sold counterfeit memorabilia from the Melbourne Football Club’s 2021 premiership, which included forged signatures from players.
As Nixon’s legal issues continue to unfold, his previous career in professional sports contrasts sharply with his current challenges, highlighting a troubling turn of events for the former athlete.
