Kmart Australia has urgently recalled its Anko-branded reusable coffee cups following reports of injuries related to the product. This recall affects double-walled coffee cups with lids that were sold both online and in-store between December 18, 2024, and April 7, 2025. The defective lids on these cups, which are available in four colours—sunset, sage, black, and rose gold—present a significant safety risk.
The problem arises when the cup is filled with hot liquids; the lid may unexpectedly disengage and pop off due to the lack of a pressure release valve. This can lead to serious burns from hot drinks or steam, prompting concern from the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC) after an injury was reported.
Customers who have purchased these reusable cups are advised to cease using them immediately and return the products to the store. Kmart has instructed shoppers to contact the store where they made their purchase if they are unable to return the item, and to inform the retailer if they have passed the cup on to someone else.
These faulty Anko cups, which are also sold at Target, have raised significant health and safety concerns, emphasising the importance of consumer awareness and vigilance regarding product safety.
