Reed Mahoney has narrowly avoided suspension following two incidents during Canterbury’s intense round four victory over the Sharks, but his teammate Sitili Tupouniua was not as fortunate.
In Saturday night’s match, Mahoney escaped a sin bin penalty despite a dangerous shoulder drop to Daniel Atkinson’s head. He has since been charged with a grade one dangerous contact and a grade one careless high tackle stemming from the same game, both of which could result in an $1800 fine if he opts for an early guilty plea.
In contrast, Tupouniua has been slapped with a one-match suspension for a late hit on Braydon Trindall during the closing moments of the match. He has the option to contest the charge; however, if he is unsuccessful, the suspension would extend to two matches. Notably, Tupouniua had already been sin-binned for ten minutes in the latter part of the game due to this incident.
Despite these disciplinary issues, Canterbury’s performance remained strong as they secured a 20-6 win on the road, positioning them as the only undefeated team in the competition after four rounds.
