An investigation is currently underway following a significant drug bust at Port Botany, where Australian Border Force (ABF) officers confiscated over 900 kilograms of amphetamines, marking one of the largest seizures of the substance in New South Wales. Employing intelligence profiles, ABF targeted an incoming shipping container declared to contain “vegetable spring roll and more”, which was found to hold 600 rolls of plastic film, each concealing approximately 1.5 kg of amphetamines. The street value of the seized drugs is estimated to exceed $64 million.

The case has been referred to the Australian Federal Police (AFP), who executed search warrants at locations in North Shore and Western Sydney. Their inquiries suggest the drugs were illicitly added to an otherwise legitimate shipment without the knowledge of the importing business. This incident has been linked to transnational organised crime efforts to smuggle drugs into Australia by disguising them within genuine commercial imports.

Detective Superintendent Morgen Blunden of the AFP mentioned that this is not an isolated incident; authorities have observed a pattern where illicit drugs are hidden among legitimate goods from various companies. The AFP has been proactively monitoring Port Botany and has successfully intercepted multiple shipments containing a variety of illegal substances.
