Adelaide Central Market is set for a significant transformation involving a $400 million redevelopment that aims to rejuvenate the area. A prominent supermarket chain, Coles, will be re-establishing its presence in the market, filling the gap left since the demolition of the Adelaide Central Market Arcade in May 2021, which left locals without a mainstream supermarket.

The ambitious project will expand space for local traders adjacent to the market hall, in addition to constructing a 35-storey tower. This new development will feature a public rooftop garden, a hotel, office spaces, and a total of 234 residential apartments.

The redevelopment is progressing ahead of schedule, with completion anticipated between mid to late next year. Adelaide’s City Mayor, Dr Jane Lomax-Smith, emphasised the centrality of the market in urban life, stating that it remains the go-to destination for purchasing fresh produce, meat, and fish.

Moreover, the project is expected to inject an estimated $135 million into South Australia’s economy, signifying a vital boost for the region.
